A very typical and common picture of siblings doing what they are known for and what come nature to them at times, to get what they want and when they want, and at any cost. Sibling arguments are considered “normal” to most parents, and pretty sure most of us as adults have experienced or heard of sibling rivalry at one time or another. Do we let it happen? Or stop it, discuss the ramifications, and have our children act like young adults? What would be considered the “normal” or use these situations to create the “otherness” of our society?

Would you consider this “norm” or “otherness”. In our society, happy, enjoyable, fun, and carefree marriages are considered? Curt and I will be married for 20 years this October 21st, and I admit we have had our share of ups and downs, struggles and joys, happy and sad times, but with a lot of work, it has survived and going strong… Pat Kaehler.

Good point with the sibling rivalry, maybe if we teach them at a young age to communicate and share this won't have to be a normal thing. Communication is key. Also with the couple in the picture below. To me as a young girl, it is hard to say I see a lot of happily married couples. The media always goes on about the divorce rates are up and up. So it could very well be either otherness or normal. Good question! Its fun to ponder about this.
ReplyDeleteWow, sibling rivalry is a great example! It is normal, but again as I have said in the past, is it really??? And the happy married couple is such a norm...I feel like I don't know if I will ever get married, which sometimes makes me question my own norm. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post about sibling rivalry. In today's society people tend to look at it as normal, but is it really. I know with my kids I tried to turn them away from fighting and to appreciate each other. I think so many people let their kids argue and "work it out" indicating its ok, but I think we need to encourage our kids that there are better ways to resolve issues rather than "rivalry". I really appreciate your posts and comments on other post.
